The Lifestyles Project is a screening and discussion program designed to bring Lifestyles of the Poor and Unknown and its participants to specific groups to explore the issues raised. For a modest honorarium, Marni and Kris Jamieson and/or filmmaker Nancy Fliesler are available to speak at a group screening, providing a valuable opportunity to use the film as an educational and outreach tool. Possible topics include:

  • Living with a cognitive disability: an inside view
  • Discrimination and stigma
  • Stereotypes about people with developmental disabilities
  • Independent living: what supports do people with mild cognitive disabilities need?
  • Love, marriage, and sexuality
  • How do people with disabilities fit into today's competitive, capitalist society?
  • How can we help the developmentally disabled find jobs?
  • What is "intelligence"?
  • "Be prepared to be judged:" advice for young people with a cognitive disability

Examples of some targeted settings:

  • disability groups
  • advocacy and self-advocacy groups
  • independent living centers
  • special education programs
  • professionals-in-training
  • community centers
  • chambers of commerce
  • social work organizations
  • school programs in diversity
  • churches and synagogues
